We would like to know what YOU think about your child's school. By completing this survey, you will provide important information about how we can improve your child's experience in school. The results of the surveys for parents, teachers, staff and grade 5-12 students from all district schools will be published in the school’s Progress Report and made available to the public.

This survey is confidential. No one at your child’s school will ever see your individual answers. Your answers will be combined with other parents’ answers to help improve the school learning environment.

The New Haven Public Schools introduced School Learning Environment Surveys in 2009-10 as a major component of our nationally recognized School Change Initiative. The surveys are designed to measure and improve school learning climates.

The surveys help school leaders understand what key members of the school community see as the strengths and weaknesses of their school’s learning environment. The perception of stakeholders is an important window into the learning environment of each school and is considered a key indicator of school performance and progress.

All NHPS parents, teachers, staff, and students grades 5-12 are requested to take the survey. Respondents are asked their satisfaction with five key elements of the school learning environment: Academic Expectations, Collaboration, Communication, Engagement, and Safety & Respect.

The 2011-12 survey produced 16,535 responses across all participant groups. A total of 87% of students, 81% of teachers, 54% of school staff and 38% of parents completed the survey between January and April 2012.  A detailed breakdown of survey results is in each school’s School Learning Environment Survey Report. The survey report includes question-by-question responses as well as summary scores and stakeholder participation rates.
