The visual arts curriculum program at Hillhouse is a very comprehensive and offers the student courses that range from introductory art through AP Studio arts courses. In addition to the studio courses offered, the student also has the opportunity to engage in an Art History Component that highlights various Artists during the Colonial Periods through the 21st Century.  The curriculum also leaves room for professional artist to visit classes, in order to communicate, and discuss his/her career and education, so students will grasp an understanding of requirements needed in order to pursue a career in the arts.  Students also visit local Colleges and Universities, and receive information about other institutions of Higher Education who offer opportunities in the Arts.  This curriculum also offers students the opportunity to visit art museums and galleries, due to the partnership that exists between the New Haven Board of Education and the Yale Art Gallery.

Student requirements for all art studio courses include a student developed portfolio.  But, unless specified differently, all students will be required to complete an art assessment twice during the academic year; and all artwork will be graded on an art related rubric.
