Physical Education
Physical activity is essential and productive to the growth and wellness of all people throughout their lifetime. The Physical Education Department at Hillhouse is dedicated to the physical, intellectual, and social development of our children that will allow them to enjoy healthy and productive life-styles.
The program at the secondary level (9-12) provides participation in a curriculum that exposes each student to a desirable level of health and physical fitness. This two phase curriculum program, physical well being and sports skills, is designed for students to have the opportunity to attain a level of responsibility to maintain their own physical well being after graduation from high school.
All students must accumulate at least one credit in order to meet the requirements in physical education for a high school diploma. Students can take physical education also as an elective course.
Adaptive Physical education classes are the new additions. _____ ____ Physical Education I Grade 9 1 CreditLength of Course: Full Year Prerequisite: None Description: Physical Education classes for freshmen are concentrated on the attainment of satisfactory level of physical fitness for all students. Activities include an introduction level of: Fitness, personal conditioning, soccer flag football, tennis, softball, recreational games, swimming, weight training, basketball, badminton, pickle ball, track and field, floor hockey and literacy in physical education. Assessment Methods: Change of clothes, participation and attendance 60% Mid-term and final exams 20% Sportsmanship, cooperation, attitude 10% Respect, rules and regulations, care of equipment 10%.
Physical Education II Grade(s) 10, 11, 12 1 CreditLength of Course: Full Year Prerequisite: Physical Education I Description: A course designed for students to further develop their fitness level and skills in the following activities fitness, personal conditioning, soccer, flag football, tennis, softball, recreational games, swimming, weight training, basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickle ball, track and field and floor hockey, and lifetime activities.
Assessment Methods: Change of clothes, participation and attendance 60% Mid-term and final exams 20% Sportsmanship, cooperation, attitude 10% Respect, rules and regulations, care of equipment 10%. ____________________________________________________________________Physical Education III – Medical Grade 12 1 CreditLength of Course: Full Year Prerequisite: Medical excuse exempting student from Physical Education Description: Independent study is offered to those who qualify. Students elect to research individual sports, team sports, and fitness concepts. Students can also elect to create their own regimens. When creating their regimens, students are encouraged to be creative using any type fitness equipment they enjoy. Students can log these regimens or create their own fitness video. Use of the imagination and creativity is encouraged. Assessment Methods: 25% written assignments each marking period.
