Professional development plays an essential role in successful education reform. The mission of Staff development is to prepare and support educators to meet the challenges of providing all students with a quality education and guiding all students in achieving to higher standards of learning.
The Office of Staff and Organizational Development plans, organizes and implements research-based, high quality professional development for administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals that supports the curriculum standards, district initiatives, meet the needs of schools and staff and has a positive effect on teaching and learning.
Professional development focuses on teachers as central to student learning, yet includes all other members of the school community; reflects best available research and practices in teaching, learning and leadership; enables teachers to develop further expertise in subject content, teaching strategies, uses of technologies and other essential elements in teaching to high standards; is planned collaboratively by directors, supervisors, administrators and teacher representatives; and is assessed and modified on the basis of its impact on teacher effectiveness and student learning.
The Office of Staff and Organizational Development is also responsible for issuing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for administrators and teachers; placements of interns and student teachers with Cooperating Teachers in conjunction with DHE universities in the surrounding area; planning and organizing the District Data Fair, New Teacher Orientation and facilitating the New Teacher/Mentor Support and Training Program.
