New Haven Public Schools:   A District That Provides Public Education to All Students

Statement of Commitment
NHPS is a district of inclusion and we will continue to educate our students through our core values of Collaboration, Growth & Innovation, Equity.

The diversity of thought and culture in New Haven is what makes this District one of choice for many families and students across this city. NHPS is committed to creating and maintaining a learning environment where every member of this school community – whether parent, student, teacher or staff member is respectful of their peers.

2017 Commitment to Support all New Haven Public Schools Students and Families
With the results of the 2016 Presidential Election, concern has been raised for the safety and support of New Haven Public Schools’ diverse student population and their extended families, including immigrants and refugees.

In an effort to support our students and families, New Haven Public Schools is working with our community partners and staff to affirm and implement the protections and supports provided under current law and policy, including for immigrant families.

Consistent with recent guidelines issued by Governor Dannel Malloy to School Superintendents related to possible enforcement actions in public schools, this document describes the NHPS protocols related to immigration, including protocols for engaging with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
