Summer Reading 2012

It is estimated that the average student loses as much as a month of the gains made from the year's instruction from summer vacation. This year we are partnering with the New Haven Free Public Library to encourage our students to read as much as possible over the summer to battle that "summer slide" as it has been called.

All students, even those who live outside of New Haven, can participate in the program entitled "One World, Many Stories." The staff at the New Haven Free Public Library will keep track of all students who participate and compile participation statistics for each school.  There will be prizes at the end for all students who earn enough points. Lists are organized by grade level in the following groups: PreK-K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8.

Also for the first time each of the nine high schools with library media specialists has a summer reading guide with details of that school's summer reading requirements. The High School lists vary in order to complement the school's magnet theme or focus areas.
